Trinity Pasadena’s ‘beacon on the hill’ shines brighter

5 August 2025

by Andrew Waldhuter

In 2023, Trinity Lutheran Church, Pasadena had a dream to change the static manual signage of its ‘Wayside Chapel’ to a computer-based illuminated system to further enhance the mission of the congregation. Approximately 30,000 vehicles pass by daily, and the Wayside Chapel has long been dubbed our ‘Mission beacon on the hill.’

Thanks to the LLL Mission Outreach Grant, a SA-NT Mission Resource Grant, and the generous financial support from individual members of our congregation, we have been provided with the financial resources to go ahead with this project.

Our aim is to provide up-to-date, attractive and punchy messaging of God’s love, offering hope, encouragement and peace to our wider community. The new sign also allows us to publicise details of our worship services and special events as open invitations to all who pass by, both day and night.

Delays in obtaining the necessary government approvals hampered the project during 2024. However, once approved, it was full steam ahead. A design consultant company was engaged to assist with permits and manage the project. They produced a design that incorporated the colours of our three stained-glass church windows into the new structure.

The site was cleared by congregation volunteers, including family members, and the contractor installed the new units in early 2025. Two large LED screens now display adjustable colour images and text, which can be updated remotely via computer software.

Congregation members also generously provided funding for a revitalised landscaped garden to complement the new signage.

Trinity Lutheran Church is so grateful for the support provided from the LLL, SA-NT District and most importantly from its members.

We are so grateful that our roadside ministry is now upgraded and updated. May God guide us to use this facility faithfully and thoughtfully.
