A century of blessing: celebrating Glynde Zion’s Church dedication
On Sunday 24 August, Glynde Zion Lutheran Church celebrated a very special occasion—the 100th anniversary of the dedication of their church building. It was the last of a series of centenary milestones:
- The congregation first formed on 29 November 1924
- The foundation stone was laid on 1 March 1925
- And the church was officially dedicated on 23 August 1925
The day began with a specially arranged combined worship service, bringing together people from across the Glynde community and reflecting the church’s welcoming, multicultural spirit. Also attending were many past members, descendants of original members, and invited guests.
After worship, everyone gathered for a community lunch—a chance to catch up, share memories, and enjoy time together.
The afternoon was filled with music items, videos, interviews, and a historical presentation. It was both a celebration and a reflection as the congregation honoured its rich history.
The Zion Glynde Lutheran Church, originally known as the Hectorville Lutheran Church, was established by members from the Adelaide Bethlehem congregation. Over the years it has grown into a diverse, welcoming community, drawing people from local families as well as those who have come more recently from South Sudan, Korea, China, and other parts of the world.
This 100th anniversary was more than just a party—it was a heartfelt celebration of faith, community, and belonging. It wove together worship, fellowship, and creative tributes, honouring the past, giving thanks for the present, and looking with hope to the future.
