Elcies To Open In Norwood

30 August 2019

by Amelia Dawkins

A new shop that will enable Lutheran Community Care to help more people in need is set to open on The Parade, Norwood, in October.

Elcies will stock high-quality, donated items, including handbags, shoes and clothing, with proceeds to support those in the community who seek LCC’s assistance.

LCC’s Op Shop Manager Babs Deane is part of the team leading the exciting new project. She began working with LCC in June after years of experience setting up Vinnies shops across South Australia. In her first month, she completed a stylish revamp of LCC’s Blair Athol Op Shop.

Babs said Elcies would have a different brand to LCC’s seven other shops, but it was important to be clear that LCC’s commitment to mission remains the focus.

“If we can grow LCC’s income, then that is just so many more people that we can feed, we can help house, we can get to school, and give all of the support that we do, but considerably more,” Babs said.  “And certainly the need is there. It’s greater than it ever was before.”

It is hoped Elcies will attract a wide range of people, from students to retirees, as well as those committed to sustainability.

“We hope to win over people who have never op shopped before and hopefully they will see us as exceptional value for money,” Babs said.

In order to function efficiently, Babs estimates that Elcies will need 50 new volunteers. Volunteers will be required to help at least one day a week.

“If they are positive, love having some fun, love interacting with people and making new friends, then certainly this is the place to be,” Babs said.

Elcies is located at 43-45 The Parade, Norwood. Details about an official opening will be distributed soon.

For more information about volunteering at Elcies, call 0419 866 385 or visit LCC’s website. Donations for Elcies are also needed and can be dropped off at LCC Blair Athol, 309 Prospect Road.
