LLL welcomes Darren Pope

12 May 2026

We are delighted to welcome Darren Pope as LLL’s Head of Mission Engagement.

This new position has been created to strengthen LLL’s connection to our mission by actively engaging with Lutheran and broader Christian communities.

Darren is well known to the Lutheran community, and we are excited by the possibilities that lie ahead as he applies his boundless enthusiasm, unwavering dedication and deep expertise to this new role.

Darren says:

‘It is my great joy and privilege to join the LLL Australia family and serve the community as Head of Mission Engagement.

As a lifelong, active, communicant Lutheran, the mission and ministry of the Church have shaped not only my faith, but also my vocation, my leadership, and my deep commitment to service.

Serving in this new and innovative role is a calling as I live out my vocation to serve and grow God’s church in the world. My years of experience within the Lutheran community, including significant work with Lutheran Education across Australia, Lutheran Youth of Queensland, and innovative partnerships with all church agencies, have shown me firsthand the transformative impact that mission‑aligned partnerships, faithful stewardship, and collaborative leadership can have across congregations, schools, agencies, and the wider community.

Serving others in ministry and organisational leadership has enabled a strong and respected network of professional relationships across all agencies of the Lutheran Church, as well as with broader Christian communities, faith‑based organisations, and system‑wide leaders. These relationships are grounded in trust, shared purpose, and effective collaboration.

Mission in action

My priority in this role of advocacy and support is to co‑design and implement transformational, innovative, values‑aligned initiatives that bring together diverse voices around common mission priorities. This directly aligns with LLL’s focus on engaging with LCANZ bodies, building authentic partnerships, and identifying opportunities for LLL to support meaningful, grassroots community‑centred impact.

Above all, I am deeply aligned with and inspired by LLL’s purpose. As someone whose faith, identity, and lifelong commitment are rooted in the Lutheran tradition, it is an honour to join the LLL family and contribute my relational strengths, missional passion, and experience as Head of Mission Engagement.’ – Darren Pope

Darren will start his new role in July.
