‘Together in Mission’ Day

2 December 2025

by Joanne Chamberlain, SA-NT District Mission Mobiliser

‘The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few’ Matthew 9:37 ESV

LCA members are responding to the Lord and joining him in the harvest, and recently 50 people from 20 different congregations across the SA-NT District gathered for a day to share what they have been experiencing.

‘Together in Mission’ was held at Glynde Lutheran Church on Saturday 8 November and facilitated by the SA-NT District Mission Team. A selection of mission-minded people from around the district were invited to reflect on what God is up to in the mission space.

Morning sessions engaged in ‘Dwelling the Word’ through Matthew 5:14-16 (being light in the world) and prayer, with a focus on who we see God is calling us to be in mission with. The afternoon sessions began in 2 Timothy 1:6-14 fanning into flame what the spirit of God has given us, and prayer.

  • Groups were formed around key mission areas that had been discerned:
  • Being a blessing in our neighbourhood
  • Engaging spiritual searchers and the de-churched
  • Migrants and people of other cultures
  • Youth and intergenerational engagement
  • Disaster and crisis situations
  • Socially disadvantaged and mental health
  • Ageing – retirees, older people
  • Major disasters
  • Chronic loneliness and family relationship breakdowns

Groups discussed each mission area with discernment in needs, opportunities, and actionable outcomes. Those in attendance were encouraged to consider how we can best serve these communities collectively and individually.

The SA-NT District Mission Team have written a summary report of the event which is available on request. Findings from the day will inform key priorities for the Mission Team in 2026, with an intention to follow up with individuals and groups formed out of the day. We are encouraging more like-minded mission-hearted in the district to join us in the mission of serving our communities.

If you are a mission-hearted servant in your community and would like to connect with other like-minded people in the district, we’d love to hear from you. We’re also keen to hear mission stories from the neighbourhood that we can share and inspire others in the district. Or if you would like a copy of the ‘Together in Mission’ summary report, please contact Jo joanne.chamberlain@lca.org.au or Craig craig.heidenreich@lca.org.au.

‘Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest.’ Matthew 9:38 ESV
