Victor Harbor Lutheran Church Celebrates 40 Years of Worship and Community

26 August 2024

by Pastor Nigel Rosenzweig

On Sunday, 25th August, Victor Harbor Lutheran Church marked a significant milestone, celebrating 40 years since the dedication of their Lutheran Church Centre on Adelaide Road. The event was a special day of reflection, gratitude, and celebration, as members past and present came together to honor the journey of their congregation and the rich history of their church.

The congregation was led by Pastor Robert Voigt (1981–87) when they made the significant move from their former location on Crozier Road to the old Amscol cheese factory, which has since been transformed into the vibrant worship space and community hub it is today. Pastor Voigt returned for the celebration, delivering the day's message and sharing in the joy of the occasion. His words reflected on the early years of the congregation in their new home, highlighting the challenges and blessings of that transformative time.

The celebration was further enriched by the presence of all pastors who have served at Victor Harbor Lutheran Church over the past 40 years. Those who could not attend in person sent video messages, which were shared with the congregation on the screen. Their reflections brought back memories of faith, fellowship, and growth, creating a deep sense of continuity and connection between the past and the present.

Throughout the day, there was plenty of storytelling, with members sharing their memories of various eras in the church's history. A display of photos from different periods, along with a special historical exhibition, gave attendees the chance to reminisce and celebrate how far the church has come.

One of the highlights was the photo taken of those who were part of the congregation during Pastor Michael Parker's time (1995–2001). This special moment symbolized the enduring bonds that have formed through shared worship and community life over the decades.

The day concluded with a celebration lunch, where old friends and new members of the congregation came together to share food, stories, and laughter, reflecting on the blessings of their shared faith journey.

Victor Harbor Lutheran Church’s 40th anniversary was not just a commemoration of the past but a celebration of the continued work of God within their community, looking forward to many more years of worship and service together.
