Confirmations at Waikerie
Waikerie Lutheran Parish has not let their current pastoral vacancy deter them from ministering to young people, with a team of four leaders working with 14 young adults over the past year to prepare them for confirmation.
Although the odds seemed against them with COVID-19 impacting the journey significantly and the parish being without a pastor, there were some passionate parents who wanted their children to learn and be led by the Spirit in their faith journey. Three of these parents – Tim, Tamara and Sue – bravely volunteered their time and agreed to the challenge of presenting the confirmation lessons, supported by youth leader, Sam.
Using the Blueprint Ministries Grow Disciples material as their course guide, the leaders were supported by Pastor Stephen Schultz via Zoom. Pastor Stephen was also able to converse with those on their confirmation journey, answering questions raised by the young adults and meeting with them for a lesson.
It was great to have Pastor Stephen present for the rehearsal and the sharing of faith statements and then to confirm the group on the day.
The Spirit was certainly moving in Waikerie. Only weeks before the confirmation service, four of the young people asked to be baptised. First it was Kate, then two young boys Reno and Zane and their older sister, Tahlia.
On the day of the service around 230 people celebrated with those being baptised and confirmed. It was certainly a day of great celebration!
