Exhibition Showcases Women of the Bible
Over 800 visitors viewed a stunning handcrafted display in the Angaston Lutheran Church Hall for the 2019 Barossa Vintage Festival in April.
It took 14 months to create The Women of the Bible exhibition, which featured 40 realistic individual scenes with painted backgrounds by Judi Rosenzweig and Kath Reimann.
Judi said it was a determined effort that took a lot of time, but the team knew God would not send them anything they could not handle.
“The cardboard or MDF silhouettes were painted or clothed, but initially we had no idea of who could give them faces,” Judi said.
“In July, Pastor Rob Borgas was installed into the Angaston pastorate. Fortunately, his wife Kriss is a very talented artist and painted the faces to bring our scenes alive. What a God moment for us.
“We even grew our own Nile grass for the baby Moses scene and our own wheat sheaves for the Ruth scene in a town garden when the drought was forecast.”
A static commentary by Judy McDonald accompanied each scene, relating how God used women of the Bible as part of his great rescue plan. A booklet was also printed to complement the display and provide further background and insight into their stories and what we can learn from them today.
“Women today can be leaders and take positions of authority in churches. If we are called to be a leader, we must have courage and step up to our calling,” Judy said.
The public response to the display was overwhelming and well beyond expectations. Many who visited returned and brought their friends.
It was a wonderful experience for the team who made a great witness to the local community.
