Appeal dinner raises important funds
More than $7000 was raised at Blueprint Ministries’ Appeal Dinner in July, as 130 people gathered to enjoy a night of fellowship and entertainment.
Held at the Tea Tree Gully Golf Club, the event was enjoyed by people of all ages and saw many give generously to the Lutheran Church of Australia South Australia – Northern Territory’s youth and family department.
A highlight of the evening was the guest speaker and former Zimbabwean cricketer, Henry Olonga, who spoke about his journey and relationship with God.
Henry is well known for his protest at the 2003 Cricket World Cup, where he and a teammate wore black armbands to mourn the ‘death of democracy’ in Zimbabwe. Following the protest, he received death threats and he thanks God for helping him get out of the country safely.
After the main course, guests heard from Blueprint Ministries Director Fiona Weckert, who spoke about the important work the department does and outlined plans for the future.
‘We really believe we have a great opportunity to shape the future of our church by putting time and energy into training, supporting, nurturing and disciplining our ministry leaders, most of them being young adults’, Fiona said.
Another highlight of the night was the live auction, which featured year 11 Cornerstone College student Sebastian Brook, who has had success in national and international junior auctioneering competitions. Sebastian successfully raised the price on a number of auction items and had the crowd in stitches at some moments!
Rainbow Duffy and Andrew Traeger also entertained the crowd with their musical and hosting talents respectively.
Guest Ron Ehrke said the evening was well organised and that he would consider attending a similar function in the future.
‘One particular highlight for me was catching up with a few different people from all over who I hadn’t seen for quite a while’, Ron said.
‘This kind of event seemed to appeal to a wide variety of people from many different areas of the church. I think I could speak for our table that we thoroughly enjoyed the main speaker, Henry, [who was] naturally very funny and entertaining.’
