Harvest Thanksgiving features a special community care guest
Nairne Redeemer Lutheran congregation celebrated Harvest Thanksgiving with the Nairne Uniting congregation earlier this year. These two congregations share Sunday worship services, with Redeemer Lutheran leading two services a month and Nairne Uniting taking the other two services. These services are held in the historic Nairne Uniting Church at 10.00am and are led by retired pastors and lay people.
For our Harvest Thanksgiving service, Paola Mavrogiannis from Lutheran Community Care attended as our special guest. Paola spoke about what Lutheran Community Care is doing in South Australia and the Northern Territory.
Paola themed her talk on Psalm 145:4:
- ‘One generation shall praise thy works to another. The works of providence done in one age shall be told by the father to the son with praise.’
- The people you are helping are from different generations with different problems.
- Greek proverb: ‘A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they shall never sit.’
The members of the two congregations gave as they were able for this Thanksgiving service. After the service, we gave these goods to Paola to distribute to those requiring help through Lutheran Community Care.
Annette Gladigau is the secretary of the Nairne Redeemer Lutheran congregation.
