LWSA-NT 54th Convention
Picture over 200 ladies singing ‘… give us we pray, your bliss in our hearts, Lord, at the break of the day… ’ (hymn 870 LHS) and you have the setting for the opening worship of the 54th Convention of the Lutheran Women of SA-NT (LWSA-NT), held at Mannum on 6th May 2021.
The theme ‘The Strength of Gentleness’ was conveyed via a banner. There were the servant hearts of host members of Mid Murray Parish, eloquent guest speakers, times of worship as well as joyful interactions between attendees.
Lutherans for Life speaker Chelsea Pietsch spoke compassionately about both the beginning of life and the end of life. emphasising the dignity of human life as gifted by God.
Pastor Graham Jenke informed us about Suicide Prevention.
Bobbie Taylor and Joy Marks from Mannum Community College spoke about the challenges facing the youth of today and told us of simple ways that we can be a positive support in young people’s lives.
Spot speakers included Tracy Smith telling us about the proposed bus tour to National Convention in Horsham in September (note: this event has now been cancelled). Pastor Matt Anker from LCA International Mission informed us that Lutheran Women are THE single biggest supporter of LCA International Mission. Julie Krause from ALWS highlighted the ‘Walk My Way’ event.
Pastor Mark Welke, Spiritual Advisor for LWSA-NT presented “Gentleness” in the form of a television ad in the ilk of ‘but wait there’s more’. His ‘advertisement’ claiming that gentleness is ‘new and improved because the active ingredient is the Holy Spirit’ was a powerful image, and his advice that ‘Gentleness can be applied in the most dire circumstances with positive effect’ is sound advice for our daily interactions.
We thank God for his blessing upon our Convention Day.
