Upper North Women Gather for Fellowship
Lutheran women from Whyalla, Port Augusta, Wilmington, Booleroo Centre, Laura, Appila, Jamestown, Port Pirie and Crystal Brook recently came together in fellowship to celebrate the 53rd Upper North Zone Fellowship Day.
Held on 26 June 2019, the day was hosted by the Crystal Brook St John’s Lutheran ladies fellowship group with a total of 41 in attendance.
LWSA-NT President Grace Kroehn was in attendance and brought greetings from the executive and information on the LWSA-NT Convention held earlier this year, as well as details on the upcoming 2020 convention. The visiting groups were welcomed and the business side of the day commenced with reports received and representatives elected to various positions.
The first guest speaker was Ms Raeleen Wandel, who presented a PowerPoint presentation on her involvement with ‘Aussie Hero Quilts (and Laundry Bags).’ This group makes quilts and laundry bags for our armed services personnel. Raeleen has made 78 quilts and sent them to various personnel in the Australian Army, Navy, Airforce and Special Forces. These quilts are greatly appreciated by our service men and women. It was a wonderful presentation with some amusing anecdotes and many questions were asked by the ladies – many of whom had not heard of the organisation before.
The second guest speaker was the Reverend Mary Lewis from the Anglican Church in Port Pirie. Mary spoke to the theme of the day – ‘Let’s Flourish’ – and said we should never worry about what to eat or what clothes we wear, as God will protect and provide for us. She quoted Luke 12:22. Mary also told us of the years she, her husband and her young family spent ministering in Nepal and how a planned short visit became a lengthy stay of several years. It was a very interesting and informative presentation.
Pastor Brian Keller concluded the day through closing worship with communion. Each attendee was invited to take home a Ranunculi plant – potted and provided by Elaine Keller – as a reminder of the theme.
