Mount Gambier shares real reason for the season
During the Advent season, St Martin’s Lutheran Church, Mount Gambier, set out to share the real reason for the season, celebrating the birth of Jesus with the wider community, particularly with families from St Martin’s Kindergarten.
The church organised two events, which took the format of a mini fair and coincided with the kindergarten’s graduations.
Held on the front lawns at the church, there was a sausage sizzle, kartoffelpuffer, coffee and sweets, plus various craft activities, centred around the Christmas nativity. There was also Christmas music and carollers. This was all free entertainment and the church’s gift to the community, reflecting God’s gift to us.
Families were also able to ‘journey to Bethlehem’, which featured Mary, Joseph, angels, shepherds, wise men and, of course, baby Jesus.
Even the cold, wet weather on the second night did not dampen the atmosphere for those participating, with church members happily volunteering their time and talents.
The challenge and wider ministry for the church now is to continue through the coming year to connect with families who come along to St Martin’s Kindergarten and College, so that we can reflect God’s love and care all through the year.
